Unified Health Interface (UHI)
News:
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has
operationalized the Unified Health Interface (UHI)
to expand digital healthcare access under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission
(ABDM).
About Unified Health Interface (UHI)
Unified Health Interface (UHI) is an open, interoperable digital network
developed under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
It serves as the service layer of the ABDM ecosystem.
UHI enables citizens to discover, access, and avail healthcare services from
multiple verified providers through any UHI-enabled application.
It reduces information asymmetry, improves healthcare accessibility, and
promotes greater choice for patients without locking them into a single
platform.
How UHI Works
UHI operates through open digital protocols over the ABDM Gateway, which is
developed and managed by the National Health Authority (NHA).
When a user searches for healthcare services on a UHI-enabled application, the
request is routed to registered healthcare providers through the ABDM
network.
The entire workflow—from service discovery and appointment booking to
consultation and service delivery—is carried out on a common interoperable
platform.
Different healthcare applications can seamlessly communicate with one
another using standardized protocols.
