relatives, including Duttaphrynus stuarti and Duttaphrynus chandai.
• Its discovery adds to the rich amphibian diversity of the northeastern region of
India.
Physical Characteristics:
• It is a small-sized forest-dwelling toad, with adult males measuring about 40–

India’s First SkyCast System
News:
India recently operationalised its first SkyCast System at the Indira Gandhi
International Airport (IGIA), New Delhi, to enhance aviation weather forecasting
and operational safety.
About SkyCast:
• SkyCast is an advanced aviation weather intelligence system that provides
real-time atmospheric and meteorological information for airport operations.
• It has been developed under the Mission Mausam initiative of the Ministry of
Earth Sciences.
Scientific Basis:
• The technology is based on findings from the Winter Fog Experiment (WiFEX).
• WiFEX was launched jointly by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology
(IITM) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at IGIA in 2015.
Global Significance:
• With the deployment of SkyCast, India has joined a select group of countries
operating integrated aviation weather monitoring systems.
• India has become the 19th country globally to implement such an advanced
system.
Key Features:
• Integrated Weather Intelligence: Combines real-time data on fog, aerosols,
turbulence, moisture, visibility, and other atmospheric parameters into a single
platform.
• Enhanced Aviation Safety: Supports better decision-making for aircraft
operations, especially during adverse weather conditions.
