1. Rani Chennamma
Subtopic: Indian Freedom Struggle – Early Resistance Movements
Value Addition:
Queen of Kittur (Karnataka); led Kittur Revolt (1824) against the British East India Company.
Trigger: British refusal to recognize her adopted son Shivalingappa under the Doctrine of Lapse.
Initially defeated the British, but later captured and imprisoned till death (1829).
Known as one of India’s earliest female revolutionaries preceding 1857.
