• It is an active stratovolcano located in Albay province on Luzon Island,

Philippines.

• It lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone known for intense volcanic

and seismic activity.

• Geographically, it is situated on the eastern side of Luzon, close to the

Philippine Trench, where the Philippine Sea Plate subducts beneath the

Philippine Mobile Belt.

DAMPE (Dark Matter Particle Explorer) Satellite

• China’s DAMPE satellite has recently recorded observations related to cosmic

rays, including hydrogen and helium nuclei.


📖 Definition

• Also known as “Wukong.”

• It is China’s first astronomical satellite.


🛰 Nature and Function

• Functions as a space-based telescope designed to detect high-energy gamma

rays, electrons, and cosmic rays.

• Launched on 17 December 2015.

• Positioned in a polar, sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of about 500 km.


🎯 Scientific Objectives

• To measure electrons and photons with much higher energy resolution and

detection range than previous missions.

• To identify possible signals of dark matter through precise observations.
