Pipeline Name: Druzhba Pipeline (“Druzhba” means Friendship in Russian).

Type: International crude oil pipeline network connecting Russia with Europe.

Commissioned: 1964 during the Soviet era.

Origin: Oil fields of West Siberia, Russia.

Transit Countries: Belarus and Ukraine.

Network Scale: One of the longest and largest oil pipeline systems in the world.



Route & Connectivity:


○ Pipeline originates in Russia and moves westwards through Belarus and Ukraine.


○ It supplies crude oil torefineries across Central and Eastern Europe.

○ Supplies oil to Poland

Southern Branch:


○ Supplies oil to Slovakia

Recent Context:


Disruptions in Russian oil supply through the pipeline have intensified geopolitical tensions between Russia and the European Union.


○ The issue has affected EU discussions on sanctions against Russia and financial support decisions related to Ukraine.

Villages of Excellence Initiative


Subtopic: India–Israel Agricultural Cooperation


Value Addition


Initiative: Joint agricultural development programme announced during the Prime Minister of India’s visit to Israel (February 2026).

Participating Countries: India and Israel.

Objective: Strengthen agricultural cooperation and technology transfer to improve farm productivity and farmer income.


Shift in Approach:


○ Earlier cooperation focused mainly on high-tech Centres of Excellence (CoE).


○ The new initiative focuses on transforming entire village clusters into technology-driven agricultural hubs.


Core Focus:


○ Bridge the gap between advanced agricultural research and grassroots farmers.


Technology Transfer:


Israeli agricultural technologies developed in Centres of Excellence will be extended to surrounding villages.


Expansion Plan:


○ Increase the number of Centres of Excellence in India to around 100.


Grassroots Development:


○ Villages located around CoEs will be developed as model agricultural villages for neighbouring regions.


Institutional Support:


○ Backed by the India–Israel Innovation Centre for Agriculture, providing technological expertise and capacity building.
